Video & photo diary – sandboarding in Lancelin, WA

One of our favourite day trips from Perth, we headed out to Lancelin in our campervan (not a 4WD!) and out to the dunes for some sandboarding. It takes just under two hours to get to Lancelin from Perth, if you can take a 4×4 you’ll have more of an adventure than struggling to get over the car park like we did!

You can rent the boards from the dunes themselves from a little mobile truck; it’s $10 a board, for two hours. You can also rent them from shops in the little town up the road.

That’s it, then you can roam all over the dunes, find the highest point and ride down. We were advised to start off sitting and sliding down (especially if you you’re going down a steep slope with fresh sand!).

We found baby dunes and then tried standing – I picked it up quicker than Dan (bambi on sand!) but still had some pretty heavy falls. If you’ve got a 4×4 you can go and drive all over the dunes, just make sure you’ve got something to dig you out if you get stuck! We saw a couple of struggling trucks.

It’s an awesome experience and one of the best adventure day trips from Perth.
